President Northwest Missouri State University seeks a visionary, entrepreneurial leader who can advance the university to greater national prominence in higher education. The next president will appreciate the accomplishments of the University and will be supportive of the total quality management approach Northwest has incorporated into its award-winning Culture of Quality. Building on past successes, the leader will provide the vision and set the direction for the University, enabling the faculty and staff to remain at the leading edge of excellence and innovation in programs, services and resource management. The selected leader will work successfully with external and internal constituencies, especially state and local officials, legislators, the state higher education board, foundations and alumni. A strong commitment to fundraising and donor cultivation is needed. A terminal or professional degree, along with a solid record of scholarly research and faculty leadership, is preferred. Experience should include evidence of establishing effective connections, collaborations, partnerships and coalitions that strengthen and expand an institution. The senior official will have demonstrated effective administration of fiscal and human resources, as well as a commitment to excellence and professionalism in providing a student-centered academic and residential community. As an effective communicator, the president will be articulate and confident in interacting with a variety of audiences. Honorable, personable, energetic, visionary, resourceful, innovative, professional, intelligent, decisive and forthright are characteristics expected in the next leader of Northwest to take the University into the next decade. THE INSTITUTION Northwest is a vibrant and thriving comprehensive, state-assisted, teaching institution widely recognized for its leading-edge initiatives in higher education. Serving more than 7,000 students, Northwest offers over 100 majors, 70 minors and 19 pre-professional programs for undergraduates, has 40 graduate programs, and operates outreach programs at seven sites across Missouri. Located in Maryville, Northwest provides a laptop computer and primary textbooks as part of students' tuition, loans e-book devices for electronic textbooks, and offers first-time freshmen a needs-based grant that makes college more affordable. The University is committed to a continuous quality improvement program that is reflected in its student-centered processes and learning environment and its supportive 800-employee campus community. The well-maintained campus has been designated the Missouri Arboretum. Newest facilities include a residential complex, a studio theatre, and a fire-medium arts building. A Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship opens this summer with two private-sector research companies conducting operations. Northwest is a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, NCAA Division II. APPLICATION PROCESS Confidential inquiries are welcomed.
