January / February 2016 34 The day flew by while walking the grounds of the Porsche-carnival that is Rennsport V. For me, another highlight of the first day was the "Le Mans Garage." All of the Le Mans winning cars were on display, side by side in one long garage. If I won the lottery, I would… wait… I'd have to win the lottery several times over to be able to afford the historical significant cars in this garage. But, if I did... The sun was beginning to kiss the mountain ridge surrounding Laguna Seca and day one was coming to an end. On the advice of Ric Smith, KCRPCA'er who grew up in Monterey, we were told to find a local racers' restaurant called Turn 12. After a quick shower and spiffed up from the dusty-race- track day, we found ourselves cruising the streets of Monterey looking for the Turn 12 Restaurant. Rounding the corner, we saw a street lined with the finest machinery Stuttgart has to offer. "Uh, we must be close" Fred joked. We soon found a park- ing place beside a few GT3s and a 993 Turbo. Turn 12 was packed with a 40-minute wait and we didn't care. We were just happy to be there, happy to be in the energy of the crowd. We soon found a place at the bar and struck up a conversa- tion with a fellow Porsche enthusiast. Mark had flown in from Seattle and was waiting to meet some of his PCA friends from the Northwest. We talked cars, Rennsport, wine, fun drives we had been on, and all things Porsche right up until our table was ready. What a great way to finish our first day at Rennsport V. DAY 2 STARTED WITH A SPECIFIC AGENDA. First, we needed some Rennsport and Laguna Seca gear. Second, find our way to the top of the corkscrew to watch the pros twist their way through it. Third, walk the Porsche Paddock Parking. Four, find the Porsche factory display. Four things that sound easy, but they would take us back and forth across acres of bridges, parking lots, tents and up a small mountain. Our first two attempts at getting some gear was met with long lines, picked over merchandise and frustration. We decided to punt on the gear and find the Porsche factory display. Turns out it was in the only corner we did not explore on day one. Fred Quintana's dream garage Ric Smith, Fred Quintana and Stan Thorne Imagine the Chief's parking lot filled with Porsches
