Dean, School of Business The University of Southern Maine invites applications for the position of Dean of its AACSB accredited School of Business. Start date: Summer 2002 or earlier. is one of eight deans and directors who report to the Provost of the University. The School has an associate dean, approximately 25 full-time faculty members, five professional staff and five classified staff. The dean provides aca- demic and administrative leadership and support to the departments of account- ing, and business administration, and to the MBA and MSA programs. The dean also provides leadership and sup- port to outreach centers: Center for Business and Economic Research, Institute for Real Estate Education, Center for Entrepreneur ship and Small Business, and the Maine Small Business Development Center. USM, with an enrollment of 11,000, is the largest of the seven campuses in the University of Maine System. USM consists of three campuses, Gorham, Lewiston/Auburn and Portland, the home of the School of Business, Maine's largest city and the center of financial, business, and cultural activities. The Dean of the School of Business appoint an individual who has academic administrative experience or extensive experience as a senior-level executive. Candidates from an academic environ- ment must possess graduate manage- ment teaching experience, demonstrate scholarly and professional activity, have extensive experience with AACSB accreditation and hold an earned doc- torate. Other candidates must demon- strate familiarity with all facets of man- agement in an academic environment. The position requires positive inter- personal and communication skills, respect for the academic process and shared governance and an ability to optimize the use of faculty resources. The dean should possess an appreciation of the diverse disciplines, programs, and student body within the School, a clear vision of management education in a global economy, and a sense of perspec- tive on and strong commitment to the mission of the School, which centers on excellence in teaching. The dean is expected to provide leadership to the School in a number of areas, among which are partnering with the local business community and other University units, increasing fund- raising, sustaining AACSB accredita- tion, strengthening the curriculum, promoting faculty collegiality and development, promoting faculty re - search and scholarship, and serving as a champion for the School's needs with- in both the University and the business community. Salary, faculty rank and tenure will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits, including TIAA-CREF retirement.
