March / April 2016 16 Battery: Battery needs to be secured with a good tie down (preferably the factory one). Again, under cornering, that heavy battery can get tossed around if loose, the terminals could short on the hood, etc and cause issues. Throttle Return: Now days throttle bodies are mostly electronic and do not have a throttle cable, but make sure either way that the throttle isn't sticking and operates smoothly all the way to the floor and back. Engine: You want to make sure the engine is running good, no horrible noises, check engine lights, exhaust falling off, etc. Belts: Make sure your fan/alternator/AC belts are all in good shape. Often times these belts run critical items like power steering and waterpumps which are crucial to have on track. You don't want to break a belt and lose power anything or hurt your engine. Brakes: You should have at least 3/16" minimum thickness on your brake pads to do an HPDE. This is the published rate. I prefer at least 50% of new. You don't want a weekend ruined because you ran out of brake pad and are metal on metal and can't stop. It is a bad feeling to feel that brake pedal go to the floor going into a braking zone and the car not slowing down. Brake rotors should not have any cracks extending to the outside edge of the rotor surface. Cross drilled rotors are notorious for small heat cracks around the drilled holes. These are ok as long as they are not to the edge of the rotor. Brake Fluid: High performance track driving will take toll on your brakes. Every time you lay on the brake pedal, the fluid doing the work will heat up. Eventually it can boil the brake fluid which will cause loss of brake function. I recommend using a high temp brake fluid like Castrol or ATE super gold etc. Fluid must be flushed within 6 months of an event to remove any condensation, etc that could lower the boiling point of the fluid. You will be required to provide date of flushing/bleeding. Brake lights: Most of the organizations vary, some require one working brake light, others all of them. Please make sure all of them are functioning properly. You don't want the guy behind you to rear end you. Pedals: Going along with the throttle return, make sure your brake pedal and clutch pedal are operating properly with no binding
