8 STORM & SECURITY PROTECTION / FORECAST 2016 CONTACTS Robinson Kujawa Marvin Garcia Named FLASH 2016 Weatherperson of the Year Alex Garcia, chief meteorologist for KABB TV, San Antonio, TX, is the FLASH 2016 National Weatherperson of the Year. The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) selected Garcia for his outstanding commitment to weather broadcasting and meteorology education at its annual conference held in January in Orlando, FL. In the course of his two decades of service in broadcasting, Garcia has earned the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Seal of Approval and six Associated Press awards for Best Weathercast. Garcia delivers critical weather information to Texas residents in an area prone to flash flooding and severe thunderstorms. He also is a local pioneer in the use of social media to warn area residents of hazardous weather conditions. Garcia was cited as a passionate community educator. As adjunct professor of meteorol- ogy at the University of the Incarnate Word, he has taught courses in meteorology, oceanography, astronomy and science and has built a broadcasting studio for training and inspiring the next generation of meteorologists. Changes to IHPA Board Changes have been announced to the International Hurricane Protection Association's (IHPA) board of directors. Frank Browning has resigned as president. The remainder of his term, running through 2017, will be filled by Tim Robinson, former vice president. Browning resigned his position because of a conflict with the IHPA bylaws. He recently left Wayne-Dalton to take on a new role with Global Protection Products (GPP), which already has a voting member on the IHPA board. The association bylaws allow only one vote per member company. Browning was named IHPA immediate past president and will continue to serve the association and the hurricane protection industry. Robinson, managing partner at GPP, has served as vice president for the past year and as secretary during Browning's first two years as president. Darius Grimes, CEO, Disaster-Smart Consulting Inc., has been appointed to fill Robinson's remaining term as vice president. Grimes was serving as secretary. Kristin Nolan, Intertek, has been named secretary for the remainder of the term. IHPA would like to welcome two new appointed members to the board: Kevin Kennedy with Atlantic Shutters, Inc. and Herm Vanderheyden, Vanderheyden, Inc. this will round out the board for the remainder of this term. Fourth Generation President Now Leads Marvin Paul Marvin has been named president of Marvin Windows and Doors effective January 1, 2016, making him the fourth generation family member to take leadership of the family business. In his new role, Marvin will be responsible for the company's fenestration portfolio, including leadership and oversight of the Marvin, Integrity and Infinity brands. As part of the company's transitional plan, it also was announced that former president Susan Marvin, as well as Senior Vice Pres- ident of Operations George Marvin, have been promoted to vice-chairs of the Marvin Companies' board. That change also took effect January 1. Louisiana Code Official Joins ICC Board Michael Wich, the director of building code administration and chief building official for the South Central Planning and Development Commission, Houma, LA, has been appointed to the International Code Council (ICC) board of directors. Wich leads the regional-based code enforcement program that serves six parishes and five municipalities in southwest Louisiana. After owning and operating a residential construction company for eight years, Wich joined the code administration field in 2007. "Before Hurricane Katrina, code adoption and application lacked in many areas in Southwest Louisiana," he explained. "I always thought homes needed to be built to at least a certain minimum standard." In addition to supervising staff, educating local builders and government officials on the importance of code adoption and ap- plication and pursuing legislative interests, Wich represents the region on Louisiana State Uniform Construction Council Code Review Committees and continues seeking ways to improve the commission's building code enforcement program. He also partic- ipates in the development of departmental software used throughout the region, as well as in more than 100 jurisdictions in Louisiana, Mississippi, Kansas and Texas. Kujawa Named Kolbe National Sales Manager Kolbe Windows & Doors, Wausau, WI, has named Bryan Kujawa national sales manager. He will oversee Kolbe's regional sales managers working to support customers' residential and commercial building projects. Kujawa began his career at Kolbe in 1991, in Wausau, where he learned hands-on about the company's products. In 1996, he was promoted to estimator in the customer support department and then to supervisor. He specialized in door products for nearly four years before transitioning into sales. In 2003, Kujawa moved to the Pacific Northwest where he worked as a regional sales manager for 12 years. Most recently, he returned to the Midwest to work in sales at the Kolbe Gallery Twin Cities in Minnesota.
