The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba | 2015 Annual Report 3 "I have always known that Winnipeg is a unique and special community. Our energy, our Yiddishkeit, and our down-to-earth nature make this a special place. To remain special and strong, we need to meet the community where they are at, promote volunteerism, and revive Jewish practice. Philanthropy is important, but we also need to be actively and meaningfully engaged." Naomi PFEFFER, 36 Teacher at Brock Corydon School; member of the JFM Scholarship Committee; Board member with Camp Massad and the Young Adult Division of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg; moved back to Winnipeg in 2013 after 13 years away "I see great things for our community's future. We stand on the shoulders of giants when it comes to leadership, altruism, and hard work. Many committed community members today understand that the key is to act now; and so we are! In the words of Abraham Lincoln, 'You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today'." Rob DALGLIESH, 49 Director of Teaching and Learning at Gray Academy of Jewish Education; parent of Gray Academy student; former Co-Chair of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg's Ben-Gurion Society "Ours is a caring community. We are strong because we nurture a sense of belonging and a feeling of family. To retain our strength and warmth, I believe we need to enhance our tradition of sharing Jewish knowledge from generation to generation. Knowledge connects us and enriches us. The raw material is here. We need to shape it for the long term." Evelyn KATZ, 85 Former President, Winnipeg Jewish Community Council, Sharon Home, and Winnipeg Board of Jewish Education; long-time community demographer
