5 WE FIGHT CATASTROPHIC ILLNESS I magine finding out your child is sick and the only hospital that can treat him is 2 hours away – and he'll need months of treatment! You want to make sure he gets the best possible medical care, but where will you stay while he's in the hospital? A hotel is expensive – not to mention eating out on a regular basis – and what about laundry? The financial burden of medical expenses can be devastating to a family, not to mention the lodging and meals that are incurred while away from home. Our emergency assistance organization eases that burden and becomes a family's "home away from home." During the past year, 6,980 people stayed with us, including 5,228 Virginians – 1,174 from the Hampton Roads area. J J, one of our pediatric floor guests, absolutely loves anything to do with cars! Glad we could make him smile. JJ and his Dad are staying with us until JJ's hospital stay and appointments are finished. Each night they come home to a private room and bath, a hot meal prepared by one of the many community groups that donate their time, and JJ can play in one of the play rooms on our pediatric floor. 2015 CFCSHR's AWARD RECIPIENTS (CFC HEROES) Command Area Achievement Award Most Outstanding CFC Campaign Of The Year Naval Station Norfolk Command Area Most Innovative Campaign Award Demonstrated the most innovative and creative 2015/2016 campaign within their Federal Command DDNV DLA Distribution Norfolk (NSN Command Area) 100% Participation Achievement Award Congratulations to those federal agencies/commands that have achieved 100% participation. • USCGC BELUGA • USCG COCHITO • USCGC FRANK DREW • NAVAL ORDNANCE SAFETY AND SECURITY ACTIVITY EXPLOSIVE SAFETY SUPPORT OFFICE ATLANTIC (ESSOLANT) • NAVAL SEA SYSTEMS COMMAND INACTIVE SHIPS MANAGEMENT OFFICE • USPS PASQUOTANK ELIZABETH CITY NORTH CAROLINA MAIN Leadership Award Presented to an individual CFC Coordinator and/or Key Worker(s) who best exhibits a high-spirit within the campaign and enthusiastically & effectively organizes, plans and implements the CFC campaign Wanda Turner Coordinator DDNV DLA Distribution Norfolk (NSN Command Area)
