September / October 2016 51 KRCPCA SOCIAL By Deborah Thorne KCRPCA Dinner Out A TASTE OF SUMMER O ne of my very favorite things to do is to hop into the Porsche on a lovely evening and go for a drive with my husband. We just head down the road with no particular place in mind to go and just enjoy the hum of the engine (or roar if you prefer) and feel the road. The car drives with little ef- fort, as it seems to instinc- tively know the road. Noth- ing else feels like driving the Porsche. It's like a sym- phony where all the musical notes blend together to make a beautiful sound. On a special night in July, we hopped into the Porsche for an evening drive, but this time we had a destination in mind. We joined many of our Club friends at the Vossler's for a BBQ. Here there were many greats. Great friends. Great food. And of course, great cars. The Vossler's hosted close to 40 club members for a fun evening. The neighborhood was lined with Porsches from the early 70's to the newest Carrera and Macan. It was an impressive sight to see. We were greeted with the wonderful smell of smoked meat which set the scene on the Vossler's incredibly beautiful land- scaped backyard. As a special treat, Julie Bailey, our Zone 10 Repre- sentative, joined us and we talked about club racing, DE events and why it's been so long since I got behind the wheel on a track. In all hon- esty, I didn't have a good reason, so I'll be checking the schedule soon to get something on the calendar as my conversation with Ju- lie reminded me of just how much fun I had on the track with my special instructor, Bob Wayman. After sampling many of the side dishes and desserts provided by those attending, the evening drew to a close and my husband and I were once again back in the car headed for home. After all, the club event was a suc- cess, thanks were exclaimed to the Vossler's, and it was time to hop back into the car and listen to the roar of the Porsche as we took the long way home. - DEBORAH
