And that leads us to the music. "Music is like wine," Ahn says. "People create associations and memories from both. I remem- ber the first time I 'got' classical music, while din- ing in a courtyard in Vienna. I also remember the moment that I knew wine was going to turn into a passion for me." So he's found a way to combine his love of both. Folktale offers live music to its guests on weekends from 4:30-7:30 pm, featuring local musicians such as guitarist John Sherry, jazz chanteuse Julie Capili, singer/guitarists Mark Banks and Casey Frazier and jazz trio Andrea's Fault. Folktale has partnered with Carmel radio sta- tion KRML to produce "Live in the Vines," a monthly concert series held in the barrel room. "We are lucky enough to book bands just before they break," says Director of Hospitality John Fitzgerald. "We want guests to look back when you see an act at the Hollywood Bowl and be able to say, 'I saw them at Folktale.'" The venue is intimate: just 250 seats. "The least desirable seat in the house is only eight rows from the stage," Fitzgerald notes. "Several musicians who have stayed and per- formed here have been inspired by the sur- roundings to write songs," Ahn says.
