Urban has written more than 300 research papers, several patents, and three books, and has edited nine books. He has won numerous awards, including the Tech- nical Focus Speaker and Roon Founda- tion Awards (1999) from the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technologies (FSCT), and an outstanding research faculty award from USM. His research on self-healing coatings has been fea- tured by numerous media including the New York Times, Forbes magazine, BBC, NBC, Discovery Channel, USA Today, Yahoo, and many other TV and radio stations around the world. Current research interests include self-healing polymers and coatings, understanding physico-chemical processes governing coatings responsiveness, the develop- ment of heterogeneous stimuli-respon- sive polymeric coatings, and molecular level processes that govern self-repaired coatings. Ying Yang is a postdoc- toral research associate in Prof. Marek W. Urban's group at Clemson University. She joined the Urban Research Group in 2011 and received a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 2016. She is a co-author of several high impact publications and patents, and her research focuses on the design and development of advanced stimuli- responsive polymers and coatings, including self-healing and shape mem- ory polymers, and multi-phase compos- ite systems.
