F
or the past 20 years, on the second
Friday in April, fans have lined up in
the dark, brisk early morning hours
to celebrate two Kentucky institu-
tions: Keeneland and Maker's Mark.
The occasion? An annual special-edition
bottle signing, which for two decades now
has raised millions for charity. The sign-
ing is held at Keeneland on the day of the
Grade 1 Maker's 46 Mile, a race sponsored
by the world-renowned distillery for older
horses on the turf.
