Kelso, Secretariat, Dr. Fager, in that order.
What is the best race you ever rode?
The Belmont on Bold Forbes in '76. He
was a sprinter going and a mile and a half. I
think the best job was done by the trainer
(Laz Barrera). He was the one who trained
him to go that far. I'm not trying to
be humble, but I just feel that
if it wasn't for him, the horse
would have never gone that
far. Me, working with him as
a team, I got him to relax and last a mile
and a half. That was a horse that ran three-
quarters in 1:09 and change seven-eighths
in 1:20. He was considered a sprinter and
probably the only horse that won the
Belmont that was a sprinter. He wasn't the
best horse I ever rode, but he was the one
who wanted to
