full of good hotel options and innumerable
restaurants and cafes. The top end of town
with real colonial character is near Parlia-
ment House. The Hotel Windsor in Spring
Street, a grand heritage 5-star hotel, pre-
dates the visit of Mark Twain. Other great

If casino is your style, you would opt for one
of the three hotels across the Yarra River –
the Metropol, Melbourne and Towers asso-
ciated with the vast Crown Casino Complex.
The Langham, also on Southbank, is nearby.
The adjacent inner suburbs each have their
own distinctive character and accommoda-
tion options, but central Melbourne is the
most convenient for visitors for the races at
Flemington, especially if they use the train.
