tion with Juddmonte, the race was also spon-
sored by Barry Weisbord's Matchmaker Stal-
lions.
"You remember the famous horses you've
seen here over the years. The silence when
Brigadier Gerard was beaten was eerie," says
Lord Grimthorpe, who grew up with York as
his local track and is now Chairman of the
York Race Committee. "And at the other end
of the scale there was the joy of Frankel, Sea
Pigeon, those sort of extraordinary moments
in sport that unless you're there you don't re-
ally experience properly."
When not wearing his York hat, Lord
Grimthorpe is better known as Racing Manag-
er to Prince Khalid Abdullah and his formida-
