Tasting Notes by Greg Randle, SWOOP House Wine Director My stars of the tasting were Grandes Vinos y Viñedos 2012 Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva, Grandes Vinos y Viñedos 2014 Corona de Aragón Old Vine Garnacha and the Bodegas Paniza 2012 Viñas Viejas Garnacha below, although I thought everything overdelivered. It has been probably ten years since I last searched out Cariñena wines, so it was great to get tapped back into them. Bodegas San Valero 2016 Particular Chardonnay: Medium-bodied, clean, seems like minimal lees; nectarine, red apple, apri- cot, dried peach, pear. Bodegas San Valero 2016 Particular Garnacha: Medium-bodied with for- ward fruit of plum, black cherries and red cherries. Bodegas Paniza 2015 Garnacha Rosé: Light to medium-bodied, dried raspberries, strawberry, dried cherries, pink grape- fruit; quite friendly, an everyday quaffer. Bodegas Paniza 2012 Viñas Viejas Garnacha: Medium-plus-bodied, plum and strawberry, coffee, black olive, steak- crusted herbs, kitchen spices—total value! Grandes Vinos y Viñedos 2014 Corona de Aragón Old Vine Garnacha: Medium-bodied, black cherry, strawberry, dried watermelon, kitchen spices; delicious goodness that overde- livers. The perfect little by-the- glass treat. Grandes Vinos y Viñedos 2012 Monasterio de las Viñas Reserva (blend of Garna- cha, Tempranillo, Cariñena): Medium-plus-bodied, plum, dark cherry, dried red and black fruits, orange cocoa, black tea, black pepper; classically pretty and my favorite of the flight. Nieves Beamonte, Export Manager for Grandes Vinos y Viñedos; Diego Pinedo, Export Manager for Bodegas Paniza; Paco Pulido, Export Manager for Bodegas San Valero; and Javier Sierra, Commercial Manager for Bodegas San Valero. The SWOOP House is a real house that's been converted into an entertainment venue. The plating takes place right in front of the diners, adding to its charm. f a l l 2 0 1 7 | 3 9
