Inakaya is a robatayaki style
restaurant. Robatayaki, of-
ten shortened to robata, is a
traditional style of Japanese
cooking where food, typical-
ly meat, seafood and vegeta-
bles, is grilled on skewers over
hot coals. Robata originated
in Hokkaido, where fishermen
encased hot coals in stone on
boats and used them as both a
heating and cooking source.
Inakaya has two loca-
tions--east and west--in the
Roggongi neighborhood of
Tokyo, with satellites recent-
ly opening in New York's Mid-
town West and Abu Dhabi. In-
akaya is more of a theatre than
a restaurant, and just as much
a spectacle as a meal, and both
the performance of the staff
and the quality of the food
make it an absolute must-do.
