laughing that the lights and crowds were al- most overwhelming after our time away from it all. In that moment, though, we huddled side- by-side for warmth and discussed how grate- ful we were to be taking part in something so humbling. Eventually, we fell silent, each lost in our own thoughts until darkness descend- ed, and we had no choice but to go. Later, when asked if we liked the Grand Canyon, we would all say yes but admit defeat when it came to capturing it adequately. It is the equivalent of trying to explain a precise shade of blue, the taste of a perfectly made pie, or how true love feels. You can't. It is just one of those things that life requires you expe- rience for yourself.
