If your idea of social media is posting cat pictures, you would
be right. And that's the point: social media has become a
universal community for pet owners to share their furry friends
with the world.
Did you know roughly 65 percent of owners post about their
pets an average of twice each week—and one in six has created
social media profiles exclusively for them? Pet profiles are so
popular that 50 percent attract more viewers than the pet
owners do.
We truly live in an online world, and social media is a large part
of daily conversation. Yes, this is where you'll find countless cat
videos (roughly one-third of owners post about their pets at least
as often as they do about themselves).

But social media is also where pet owners get down to business.
Specifically, online communities are where they seek information
to help them choose veterinary services.
Unlike past generations, pet owners today don't count on
traditional advertising to help them make purchasing decisions.
Instead, they rely more on their own research—often online—
to determine whether one veterinarian is a better choice than
another. This is especially true of millennials, who are the largest
group of pet owners and are more likely to use social media to
communicate with veterinarians than older clients.
