Light and bright are the main aributes of the study spaces. With floor to ceiling views of the surrounding hills and comfortable furniture, there are many quiet places to study. However, the space is also alive with small conference and study rooms set aside specifically for students to work in groups. Walls in some rooms are giant white boards where students can map complex mathematical models, or design flow charts for process improvement. Digital displays, power ports, and other connections make working together electronically a seamless experience, and professional staff is in the space to help answer any questions. Another unique feature of the new space is that the Maker's Space is being moved from its previous location into the lower level of the building. e Maker's Space is a room where students can create physical models with tools like 3-D printers. "is is a transformation in one part of campus that affects the entire campus," Carroll College President John Cech said. He noted for instance that recently the College was one of the first in the nation to have a ZinnStarter program, an initiative started by entrepreneur Ray Zinn that provides students an opportunity to participate in a Shark Tank-like competition to earn investment capital in small business. Dr. Cech noted that both the Maker's Space and CPC are spots where students might work on projects that someday lead to ZinnStarter funding, and then become young entrepreneurs. Designed by Mosaic Architecture and managed through Dick Anderson Construction, both of Helena, Mont., the project is being completed in four phases to ensure that the library will continue providing essential services as well as much-needed classroom and study space throughout construction. Phase I began in May 2018 and was completed just recently with new and remodeled study spaces, a new Center for Professional Communication (CPC), and redesigned archival space. Phases II–IV include adding a café, gallery space, and classroom and study areas while also renovating the upper level and administrative spaces. Interior study spaces will bring in natural light and provide a welcoming 24 hour a day study environment for students. SiG MT 40
