aer loving and training a puppy for more
than a year, they must agree to return the
puppy upon request. Knowing that the dog
will be going to a good home and it will
provide someone with a more independent
life allows the puppy raiser to emotionally
relinquish the dog.
e three Great Falls Volunteer Puppy
Raisers would like to have more homes
for puppies in the Great Falls area. "If we
have twelve homes, a CCI trainer would
more likely come to Great Falls. Right now,
we take the pups to either Boise or Seale
when a professional holds a workshop for
the numerous puppy raisers in those areas,"
said Monroe. In addition to working with
trainers, the three families meet weekly to
train the dogs, and they take the puppies to
Canine Companions-approved obedience
classes. "Both the business, Fetch, and Great
Falls Kennel Club have been wonderful in
giving our dogs scholarships so they can
aend classes free of charge," said Monroe.
