P erhaps the most frequently asked question when providing a homeowner's insurance quote to a potential client is "Does this quote include Wind and Hail Coverage"? Many buyers are not from our area and are unfamiliar with the necessity of wind and hail coverage. In most cases they have been told by their mortgage company that they must have this coverage but are unsure of what it entails. Wind and hail coverage provides protection against damage to your home from wind and hail storms. There are three basic types of deductibles that are available for this coverage and they o er di erent levels of protection. The rst option is a stated Wind and Hail deductible. This would apply to any loss as a result of hail or wind to your home. The next option is called Named Storm Deductible. This would apply when damage is caused by a storm named by the National Weather Service. The option with the most comprehensive coverage would be a Hurricane Deductible. In this case the deductible only applies when the damage is cause by a storm rated as a hurricane, not tropical storms or tropical depressions. The deductible can be based on a percentage of the dwelling coverage or a at dollar amount. For example, a home with $400,000 in dwelling coverage and a 3% Named Storm deductible would have a $12,000 deductible before the insurance company pays for any damage. After the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew in 2016 many customers began looking to lower their deductibles. There are many options available and coverage can be customized to t the individual www.CallenIns.com 843-681-2221 1036 William Hilton Parkway | Hilton Head Island, SC 29928 Call for your Free Home Quote Primary/Secondary/Rental Properties Are You Prepared?
