Ultimately, he wants "to make the home available to tours, add more period clothing, more original pieces." e goal is "to make it as authentic as possible, make it a first-class destination, as part of Charlie's history." "Our priority is to preserve it and make it available to the public to enjoy." However, Hartelius notes, "It's a work in progress." Former owner Gene Dwyer "helped preserve it. It had been a run-down shack." e home is remarkably intact. Moved a few yards south of its original location, the coage sits on Russell Drive, just east of the train tracks and a block west of the Missouri River bridge. Authentic pieces adorn the kitchen, including an antique kitchen table, wash basin, and 1890s Monarch coal-fired, cooking stove. "We're blessed and pleased to have this opportunity," Hartelius says. "We've goen so much positive feedback from people, so many thank yous—that alone is worth a lot. ey know we're going to keep it up for future generations." SiG MT 67
