In his native England he worked as a journalist before gaining enormous popularity for his nostalgic paintings of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. In recent years Seerey-Lester has rediscovered his fascination for historic themes by documenting in paint and words our hunting heritage in both North America and Africa. The recipient of many prestigious awards, SeereyLester has seen his original paintings hanging in the White House and in private collections and museums around the world. His compelling images have been featured in five books, including Legends of Hunt, in which he presents a stunning gallery of 105 paintings depicting the adventures of our greatest sportsmen and explorers from 1849 to 1933. Volume II, Legends of the Hunt – Campfire Tales, will be published this fall. Now a proud American citizen, Seerey-Lester and wife Suzie, also an award-winning artist, live in Osprey, Florida. raftsmanship achieves its epitome when the product of its passion evolves to be as distinctive as a fingerprint, and of such superb quality and artistry that it compels timeless appeal. In the world of fine bladesmithing, place twenty knives on a table, by twenty masters, and the work of Master Smith Jay Hendrickson will emerge as a singular standard of excellence every time. Born and raised in Susquehanna, Jay spent his youth fishing the river of the same name, and hunting the ridges and hollows of rural Pennsylvania. Here he developed the boyhood love of handcrafted knives, stick bows and arrows that has burned ever more strongly in the man. Jay began building knives as a traditional art form in 1972, earning his Master Certification in the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) in 1989. From there, he has never looked back, creating blades of finest quality and remarkable creative design, all with vintage patina that carries wonderfully back to the finest craftsmen of old. Immediately recognizable, his knives are typically distinguished composites of hand-forged carbon or Damascus steel, antler, rich, sculptured woods of bold warmth and beauty, artistically superb file-work, flawless silver wire inlay and escutcheons of affecting design in precious metal or natural materials. Today, the extraordinary and imaginative pieces he forges and finishes in his Frederick, Maryland shop command eminent global presence and fervent following among discriminating users and collectors who search for world bests. The recipient of many coveted cutlery honors, Jay Hendrickson was inducted into the ABS Hall of Fame in 2006. He presently serves as president of the William F, Moran, Jr. Museum & Foundation, and as an active educator, with a principal Classic Damascus Bowie – photograph by goal of perpetuating the sharpbycoop.com forged blade. – Mike Gaddis S P O R T I N G C 65 L A S S I C S
