In Memoriam
DONALD JOHN "DON" DOYLE
1941-2019
Founding President
of BICSI, 1975-1976
With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to our
first BICSI President, Don Doyle, RCDD.
Don began his career at Bell Canada in
Ontario, where he taught the original Building
Industry Consulting Service (BICS) course. A
proven instructional asset, Don was asked by
Bell Canada to transfer to the United States
to work for Ohio Bell and teach the BICS
course there. Bell Canada wanted to share
their procedures and methodologies for
accommodating telephone systems in new
buildings, to create combined best practices
between the United States and Canada,
thereby strengthening the relationship along
the U.S. and Canadian border. The BICS
course was a tremendous success.
In 1975, Don was elected President for
what would come to be called BICSI
(Building Industry Consulting Service Interna-
tional) by a show of hands during a small
BICS conference in Lexington, Kentucky.
Not yet an incorporated association with
members, approximately 20 individuals
attended, but Don's name was already
well known throughout the industry.
Don retired from Ohio Bell in 1992.
Don may best be remembered by the ICT
community for his role in building a bridge
between the United States' and Canada's
telephone companies. An early leader for
BICSI, he remained active in our association
all his life and will be missed greatly.
