Benjamin Franklin once said, "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." Redstone Federal Credit Union believes in making smart investments, and that's why we actively seek ways to increase educational opportunities for those living in the communities where we serve. Many of the projects Redstone sponsors strategically support education – on the elementary, secondary or collegiate level. Our Adopt-A-School Program provides resources to schools located in what may be considered economically disadvantaged areas. ose resources include back-to- school supplies and our employees who volunteer their time and talents. We are also one of the early supporters of the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering. e statewide residential magnet school will be located next door to our Wynn Drive headquarters and will provide students with specialized learning experiences in the rapidly growing fields of cyber technology and engineering. e first students are expected to report to class in fall of 2020. Redstone opened its first branch inside a school in 2018. ere are now seven student-run school branches. Many of these schools also have a debit card designated for their programs that allows them to earn money each time a member uses the card. is program has now generated $250,000 for these organizations. Learn more about our Affinity Debit Card program on page 9 of this newsletter. One of our most impactful educational initiatives to date is our Scholarship Program. Redstone's Scholarship Program began in 1996 with one partner school and grew nearly each year to include additional partner colleges/universities and other schools. Since the program's inception, Redstone has awarded more than $605,000 in scholarship money to hundreds of students.
