SECOND PLACE / LARGE CONTEMPORARY BATH
In this master ensuite, we selected finishes that
looked clean, yet were easy to maintain. The
intention of the space was to create a modern-zen
palette. More masculine in nature, we maintained a
quarter cut wood veneer for the cabinetry within the
space, to produce warm and soft tones that
emphasize the smooth versus textured wall tile.
A dark Porcelain oversized floor tile grounds the
room, and creates a larger feel to the space. The
walls around the bathroom are paneled with
oscillating textured tiles that are simplistic, yet
unique. Texture and pattern is also found in a
dramatic yet understated manner behind the vanity
wall, and in the shower. This grooved porcelain tile
adds a quiet zen-drama behind the oversized round
mirror and dropped dark pendants. Dark pebble
style hardware creates a punch against the warm
wood veneered cabinets, and mimics the pebbled
shower floor. Playing with these similar accents
throughout the space assisted with creating a
sophisticated and cohesive master retreat.
Two oval windows border either side of the free
standing bathtub. These windows look out onto the
back and side yards, allowing the natural light to
filter throughout the space. These oval feature
windows contrast the traditional house exterior,
while tying in the zen interior.
