This expansive Larchmont Manor Victorian had tremendous
historic charm but hadn't seen a kitchen renovation since the 1950s.
The homeowners wanted to take advantage of their views of the
backyard and raised the roof and pushed the kitchen into the back
of the house, where expansive windows could allow southern light
into the kitchen all day.
The design objectives were to create a large, family friendly eat-in
kitchen with an expansive feel and great natural light; to blend
classic design details with more contemporary wood accent
cabinetry; and to mix warm painted finishes with light-colored woods
to create a unifying, casual elegance that carries through the home.
• A warm historic gray/beige was chosen for the cabinetry, which
was contrasted with character oak cabinetry on the appliance
wall and bar in a modern chevron detail.
• Wall cabinets were all but eliminated in favor of large Victorian
farmhouse-style windows painted black.
• Solid brass hardware sourced from a small foundry in the UK has
an aged look.
• Mid-century Cleo Baldon vintage bar stools in iron, oak and black
hide complement the finishes in the kitchen.
• Down-to-counter cabinetry hide baking and breakfast appliances
and dry goods.
• A tall pantry (matching the refrigeration) holds dry foods and
offers easy access to cleaning supplies and a white board.
• The bar cabinetry completely disguises beverage drawers and an
ice machine.
