It's imperative to take time to reflect and re-evaluate priorities in place in order to successfully move forward. There isn't a better time than now. So much has happened since I wrote the first article on my career journey for the BICSI Insider in 2018. In 2019, I became an industry consultant as CEO Communications (using my initials was a no-brainer). I was also part of the BICSI Executive Search Committee team to hire a new Executive Director/ CEO. We were very fortunate in attain- ing John Daniels, CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, as BICSI's new Executive Director and CEO. He was selected in November and was instrumental in our strategic planning, even though he didn't officially start until January. Four months into 2020 as I'm working out of my home office, while our coun- try, our workforce and BICSI are strug- gling through a worldwide pandemic, I am reflecting on how to keep positive and believing in the future. The years 2020 and 2021 are going to be chal- lenging for the industry and for BICSI. We need to keep our organization healthy, and communication is key. Before we took our oath, President Todd Taylor, RCDD, NTS, OSP, and I met at my house in Florida to lay out plans and goals for BICSI's growth. We prom- ised ourselves that we would regularly meet to move these plans forward and keep the lines of communications open, engaging John Daniels and all stakeholders – BICSI staff, the board and volunteers. Even with unforeseen roadblocks thrown in our path, there are great things happening at BICSI. The mentor- ship program kicked off with double the participation from the pilot pro- gram; the membership team at BICSI is putting together a membership drive; we are looking at ways to improve the volunteer member experi- ence; we are offering additional cre- ative sponsorship opportunities; we are engaging with shoulder companies to expand our bounds; our standards and manuals are becoming more and More than Words from Women in BICSI "Don't Stop Believing" By Carol Everett Oliver, RCDD, DCDC, ESS President-Elect, BICSI Principal, CEO Communications ORGANIZATION Page 10
