July/August/September 2020 I 29 CASE STUDY: Overcoming Limited Space, AV, and Security Challenges at Carnegie Mellon University In any built space, there are inevitable design challenges. Budgeting, futureproofing, green building, client pleasing—the list goes on. What happens when space is limited too? Each of these obstacles weighed heavily on the design team for Carnegie Mellon University's ANSYS Hall, a multipurpose new construction that permanently houses the university's College of Engineering. This case study provides fellow designers with keen insights as to how world-class technology designs can make for a world-class academic facility, even when square footage is scarce.
