The homeowners' existing main level guest
bathroom was outdated and cramped and in
need of a major makeover. With the future in
mind, the homeowners wanted a bathroom with
enhanced accessibility. Aesthetically, the
clients desired a space that matched the
midcentury nature of the home. These goals
were achieved by expanding the bathroom with
an accessible curbless shower, in-floor heat,
concrete trough sink, and unique waterfall
stonework in both the shower and sink. The
walls were painted a bouncy blue to add a pop
of color. With these functional and aesthetic
improvements, the clients can enjoy their
bathroom for years to come.

Numerous Universal Design elements were
incorporated in the complete remodel of this first-floor
bathroom for safe and aesthetically pleasing access.
The challenging space, limited by the load-bearing
walls and the foundation, was redesigned as a wet-
room with floor-to-ceiling tile and an accessible walk-
in/roll-in shower with abundant grab bars and stability
points. Adding a pocket door for access to the
adjoining bedroom allowed the teenage client with
Cerebral Palsy to stay in her forever home with no
future modifications needed. The final result was a
beautiful, completely accessible and visitable bath-
room, befitting this upscale home.
