being together in person is so important. But you
have to be comfortable with pivoting, be willing
to take the risks that our uncertain future dictates
and have confidence in the team you have. Mine
humbles me every day."
A Lifeline for Bakers
"We had all of these knowledgeable bakers talking
to people who were baking and feeling isolated,"
says Colberg. "Sometimes they just wanted
conversation, and it was meaningful for people on
the hotline to be that resource, not only answering
questions."
To foster that sense of community, King
Arthur has launched the Bake Joy campaign, which
encourages consumers to share photos of their
baking creations with Bake Joy GIFs and stickers
on social media or try out the company's new
Crown filter on Facebook and Instagram.
No one, including Colberg, knows what
challenges King Arthur Baking Company will have
to face next. Yet the company has successfully
ridden out several wars, the 1918 flu pandemic, the
Great Depression, and recessions. For now, she's
relying on virtual video meetings with colleagues.
"We want to find ways to bring everybody
back," she says. "A lot of us miss the serendipity
of bumping into people in the halls. The culture of
