How does USP provide verifi cation? USP works with manufacturers who voluntarily participate in the USP Ingredient Verifi cation Program. We verify active pharma- ceutical ingredients, excipients, and dietary ingredients through a comprehensive, continuous quality testing and evaluation process. Our staff scientists: Perform thorough audits of manufacturing facilities, practices, records, and quality control measures to determine whether the manufacturer follows good manufacturing practices. Test ingredient samples in USP laboratories and other qualifi ed laboratories. Allow use of the USP Verifi ed Mark only on ingredients that meet all of USP's stringent criteria. Conduct testing on ingredients carrying the USP Verifi ed Mark, sampled from the marketplace, to determine whether they con- tinue to meet USP's standards. USP awards the USP Verifi ed Mark only after the facility audits, product documentation reviews, and product testing have been completed and the manufacturer has corrected all fi ndings. After- ward, USP conducts testing on USP Verifi ed ingredients randomly sampled from the marketplace to ensure they continue to meet USP's strict standards for verifi cation. usp.org 10 When you see the USP Verifi ed Mark on an ingredient label, manufacturers can trust the quality of the ingredients. This means that the ingredient: Demonstrate compliance with appli- cable Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements Verify conformance to appropriate specifi cations for identity, strength, purity, and quality Meets acceptable limits for impurities and contaminants Ensure ingredients consistency from batch to batch
