KBA's exclusive Design Trend study reveals that upgrading
the bath to include luxury, safety and wellness will be a
main focus of remodeling in the year ahead.
The health crisis gripping the globe has given consumers a
reason to seek spa-like sanctuary in their homes, with an emphasis
on health and wellness – and there's no better place to start than
the bathroom.
To accomplish these design objectives, the National Kitchen &
Bath Association (NKBA) is forecasting that in 2021 bathroom
layouts will shift, and that there will be a greater presence of smart
fixtures and connected devices and the incorporation of natural/
organic materials to promote a clean and calm feeling.
These evolving styles can be attributed to homeowners spending
more time than ever at home and more strongly desiring to invest in
the home. They may also shift disposable income to home
improvement, since other entertainment activities, from going out to
dinner, to attending concerts and sporting events, or taking
elaborate vacations, have been put on hold.
CHANGING LAYOUTS
Bathroom layouts are changing primarily by way of removing
built-in bathtubs in favor or freestanding or soaking tubs, increasing
shower size, taking down walls to increase the footprint, and
connecting the bathroom to a closet or dressing area – or even
connecting it to (or adding) laundry facilities. In the same vein,
