MOVERS AND SHAKERS Navel Orangeworm Mating Disruption Adoption Team At their 2020 annual conference, the Entomological Society of America presented its top national award for teamwork in the area of Integrated Pest Management to the Navel Orangeworm Mating Disruption Adoption Team. For more than a decade, this team has conducted field trials to develop, validate and demonstrate the use of mating disruption to combat navel orangeworm, sharing those results with almond growers through more than 30 published articles and 120 presentations over the past three years. Awardees included entomologists Brad Higbee, Chuck Burks, David Haviland, Jhalendra Rijal, Emily Symmes and Stephanie Rill, along with Almond Board staff members including Jenny Nicolau, Rebecca Bailey, Jesse Roseman and Bob Curtis (retired). Jenny Holtermann Almond grower Jenny Holtermann was recently named the Executive Director of the Water Association of Kern County (WAKC). This nonprofit organization is focused on water education and outreach to those in agriculture as well as municipal purveyors and all water users in Kern County. WAKC provides opportunities to learn about local water issues, hosts an annual Kern County Water Summit, and more. Holtermann's duties will include overseeing and executing WAKC events, campaigns and all other outreach efforts. "I am excited to bring forward new promotional ideas and truly showcase the magic of what water is able to accomplish in my role as Executive Director. We have some very exciting campaigns coming up this winter that will allow WAKC to increase its reach among our local community and further our cause of water outreach," said Holtermann.
