SECOND PLACE / LARGE TRADITIONAL KITCHEN

Jennifer Stoner Interiors
Our clients moved from out of state to create their
empty-nester dream home closer to the husband's
boyhood home. But this was no down-sizing project. The
new home is roughly 11,000 square feet and set on a very
large piece of land with rolling hills, farm potential and the
husband's new honey bee apiary. We worked with the
clients, their architect and their custom builder from the
blueprint stage to the final furnishings and décor phase.
The house is a Hamptons shingle-style home with
cedar shake and stone exterior finishes. The windows
throughout the home are very large to take advantage of
the amazing views this property provides. The kitchen
was designed to be light and bright and was space
planned to be sure to highlight those windows which
surround the kitchen on three sides. We warmed the
white cabinets up with the limed oak cabinetry on the
island. This same limed oak finish is carried into cabinetry
in the adjacent great room. The honed Vermont Danby
marble shows a bit of age on the countertop, so it subtly
undermines the crispness of what could otherwise be a
cold white kitchen. And the amazing patina on the custom
polished nickel range hood fabricated by Thompson
Traders for us is the perfect finish in this kitchen. The
subtle imperfections in the finish are so much more
special than a shiny new production piece off the shelf.
Finally, the connected butler's pantry was designed to
provide a bit of contrast with a darker more sophisticated
feel that the navy cabinets provided. The navy ties into
the colors and furnishings throughout the adjacent
rooms. The slab of White Macaubas quartzite that we
found had beautiful shades of blues through it that
worked perfectly with the navy cabinets and the marble
mosaic backsplash. This may be one of my favorite
rooms in the house, but there are so many great ones to
choose from.
