MARCH 2021 RETAILOBSERVER.COM 13 continued on page 34 Our clients wanted to update their home to a more contemporary style that would better reflect their personalities and tastes. Much of the home was renovated and the kitchen was the key feature. With a penchant for entertaining and a passion for culinary pursuits, they wanted to make sure their home provided the perfect backdrop for both social gatherings as well as day-to-day living. This space needed to be reconfigured to maximize its functionality and add the wow factor that would anchor the entire renovation. The renovation included a complete remodel that included new custom cabinetry, tile, countertops, flooring, appliances, plumbing, hardware and lighting. Adding to the home wasn't an option, so in order to increase the functionally of the kitchen we had to work with the available space and reconfigure it to achieve the homeowner's goals. Full-height custom cabinetry with drawers and glass doors on the left side wall ensured that not only was storage not lost but gained with the overall renovation, and a beautiful display area was created. We also added floating shelves to create another distinct display space. The second island was removed to open up the space. In the butler's pantry we removed the doors to have the space feel like an addition to the kitchen rather than a separate space. A steam oven was added for functionality as well as a spectacular bar to create a perfect transition to the formal dining room and achieve the goal of making a great entertaining space. The custom metal La Cornue range and island from France provide a dramatic focal point for this unique space. Black tile was used on the walls to complement the island and range. The dramatic look was also carried throughout the home by changing the window trim to black. THIRD PLACE / LARGE TRADITIONAL KITCHEN Mark Cayen, Design Consultant Empire Kitchen & Bath
