Our clients loved mid-century modern architecture and had purchased
this spectacular 1960 specimen from the original owners who'd maintained
it like a time capsule. Yet for all its original charm, our clients wanted
something more distinctively mid-century modern. We're pleased to share
the results with you.
We matched the wood floor to the rest of the home and introduced fir-
faced cabinets with an open box detail to connect with the home's wood
tones and open structure. The use of interspersed blue doors helped to
unify the kitchen, dining, and bar areas.
We replaced the "peninsula wall" with open floating upper cabinets to
allow visual/physical communication between the kitchen and dining area.
The new peninsula provides a full pass-thru and dining-side storage for
everyday items at their point of use. The roll-out storage tower and "satellite
kitchen" provide additional storage on the dining area side.
We introduced multiple new light sources (cable lights, under-cabinet LED,
and sconces) to increase light levels. We also used light-colored materials
(esp. white countertops) to bounce natural light during the daytime.
