For livestock production 2 , we rank in the Top 10 in the following categories: • Cows, All - #9 Calf crop - #8 Beef Cows - #7 • Sheep & Lambs, All - #8 Breeding Sheep & Lambs - #7 Lamb crop - #7 Market Sheep & Lambs - #10 • Wool Production - #7 2018 was a record year for chicken and egg production, with more than a million head of layer chickens and 293 million eggs produced. Montana is second in the country for honey production (which falls under the livestock category), producing 14 million pounds of honey a year 2 . We should be proud to have such a strong and noteworthy history in farming and ranching. Farmers and ranchers work hard, receive very little thanks, and provide a rich legacy for our entire nation. Agriculture continues to be the primary economic driver in our state and even more so locally. So, the next time you see a farmer or rancher driving a semi hauling their grain or livestock or in the store where we shop, give them a wave and thank them to show our appreciation!
