MAY 2021 RETAILOBSERVER.COM 11 Dated Dud Turns Modern Masterpiece Masterpiece – This master bathroom began with green floral wallpaper complete with border, glass block window, brass accents and wall-to-wall carpet. The homeowners decided they loved the area and just needed to update the home so they could enjoy it for at least another 10 years. The area has beautiful mature trees and the homeowners wanted to bring some natural elements indoors to create a modern spa-like retreat. The glass block window was replaced with a picture window and a motorized shade added that allows for privacy while still allowing natural light for the makeup vanity. His and hers vessel sinks with wall-mounted faucets atop a floating vanity have the feel of a luxury hotel. The vanity mirror is lighted with LED lights to complete the hotel bathroom experience. The homeowners wanted a shower big enough for two, so an existing closet was taken out to make room. During demo, an air duct was discovered that spanned the shower space. The duct was low and it was decided that the shower bench would be placed atop the duct. The freestanding tub was placed in the center of the room and an entablature created to create a visual focal point. The entablature was covered in a large-format agate- patterned porcelain tile, and LED lighting placed in a reveal behind it to create ambient lighting for the perfect spa experience while soaking in the tub. Lighting was also added in the shower niches with a dimmer. The floors are a honed marble, which is slip-resistant and also contrasts nicely with the high-gloss finish of the cabinets. A large linen cabinet was added to make up for storage space lost when we removed the closet. The vanity and shower wall tiles are two different textures of the same natural stone, which creates an interesting organic element that complements the space while creating visual interest. The homeowners could not be more thrilled with their new luxury spa master retreat. The tub is their favorite place to relax with a glass of wine after a long day.
