MAY 2021 RETAILOBSERVER.COM 13 continued on page 34 Rich House — My objective while designing this bathroom was to create a modern, romantic, spa-like retreat. In my designs, I like to harmonize modernism, luxury and nature. I believe humans need to be connected to nature to feel peaceful and comfortable. To create this natural feeling, I incorporated three main outdoor elements into my design: earth, light and nature. A large window in the shower showcases beautiful greenery in the side yard, bringing nature and light into the space. White Dune quartzite with blue veins for the backsplash and counter suggests elements of the ocean and earth, which is accentuated by a shower floor resembling pebbles. The large skylight also brings in light and allows the client to feel connected to the outdoors. The special features and elements of nature in my design come together to create a tranquil Zen environment where my client can relax and rejuvenate. While designing the master bath, I was challenged with creating a space that feels both modern and minimalist, yet still feels connected to nature. To achieve this, I incorporated elements of nature and modified the size of the skylight from the original design, enlarging it to allow more light to come into the room. I was also faced with the challenge of changing the shower to a steam shower in the middle of the construction process. The original shower design had three glass walls and the skylight extended over the shower. To incorporate the steam shower into my design, I changed two of the side walls and ceiling to White Dune quartzite to seal the space. In this modified enclosed shower design, the window and glass door bring in light, allowing it to still feel open and natural. I also changed the large window in the shower to an awning window with a special seal to keep the moisture inside the shower, which prevents mold problems. Special features: Large skylight, 7-inch countertop edge, and combination of high gloss wood grain cabinet with a leathered quartzite backsplash and countertop.
