36 May/June 2021 Tablets & Capsules A survey of what's available particle size reduction, separation, & analysis Air classifiers for fine powder separation Air classifiers work as stand-alone units or in combination with a mill as a milling and classifying system. Units can achieve a wide particle size cut-point range from 4 to 160 microns, and the cut-point adjustment is automated through a PLC control. Classifiers are available in seven different production sizes, are pressure shock resistant up to 10 bars, and are compliant with ATEX and NFPA containment requirements for explosion mitigation. Bauermeister USA, Memphis, TN 901 363 0921 www.bauermeisterusa.com Conical mills Uni-Mill series conical mills achieve a narrow particle size distribution, generate very little heat and dust, and produce scalable results for dry and wet milling. Mill's gearbox-driven impeller rotates inside a screen, creating a spacerless design that provides an optimal gap for particle size reduction. Mill's inter- changeable tooling and large range of screens and impellers allow manufacturers to customize their tooling setup to achieve the exact particle size distribution and throughput desired. Other features include a detachable mill head for auto- clave or CIP/WIP, temperature monitoring, pre-breakers, and nitrogen purging. Explosion-proof versions are also available. Mill head can remain freestanding or can be mounted to a mobile frame, swing arm, or height-adjustable hoist. Hanningfield, Hillsborough, NC 919 338 2884 www.hanningfield.com Segregation potential tester SPECTester segregation potential evaluation/characterization instrument identi- fies component concentrations, particle size differences, product uniformity, and up to four specific segregation mechanisms that may be present during processing. Instrument shortens time to market by predicting during formulation whether a pharmaceutical blend will be subject to unacceptable fluctuations in active phar- maceutical ingredient (API) concentration, eliminating plant downtime due to off-spec API concentrations. Instrument uses spectroscopic technology to mea- sure sample blends containing up to six unique components and reports the material's pattern and magnitude of segregation. Unit is suitable for use in R&D facilities as well as in production plants for real-time quality control. Material Flow Solutions, Gainesville, FL 352 379 8879 www.matflowsol.com
