While a senior at Decatur High School, she worked two jobs – a teller at Redstone's student-run school branch and a pharmacy technician at a local pharmacy. Sydni is a true example of the old adage: "Hard work pays off." Before graduating in May, her hard work had yielded a slew of awards and scholarships. Earlier this year, she earned a bronze award from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation for excelling in health care and science studies. She was one of three students selected in that category from applications submitted nationally. Her award came with money for college or to fund a community service effort that tackles a social issue. In May, Sydni received a scholarship from Redstone as part of its annual scholarship program. She says she learned so much from working at the credit union's Decatur High branch: "I learned what it truly means to be a part of a team. My classmates and teachers all taught me what it really means to be on a team and how to ask for help when you don't know something." Q: What's next for Sydni? A: I am heading to Calhoun Community College for two years and then transferring to Auburn University, where I plan to study pre-pharmacy and go on to become a pharmacist. While I attend Calhoun, I am going to continue working as a pharmacy tech in hopes of earning my certified pharmacy tech credentials (CPhT). Q: Does all this work leave any time for fun? A: Yes, I love to have fun! My favorite things to do in the summer are swim, go on long drives, and hang out with friends. r e d f c u.o r g | 15 M E M B E R S H I P Member's Moment : If you would like to appear in the Member's Moment column, just send your name and an interesting tidbit about yourself to aspire@redfcu.org.
