219 ELC164 Lecture 3 Credits 3 Periods Grounding and Bonding Electrical theory and calculation of electrical current. Grounding and bonding terminology including National Electric Code (NEC) Articles 250. Interpreting code requirements for grounding and bonding. Code requirements for field installation and sizing. Prerequisites: None. ELC207 Lecture 3 Credits 3 Periods AC Electrical Systems Alternating Current (AC) electrical theory, terminology, and application. The course includes information on AC circuits, motors, and generators; AC power and reactive components; voltage regulators; transformers; and electrical test instruments and measuring devices. Provides students with a foundation for understanding the basic operation and maintenance of various types of industrial facility electrical systems. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ELC119, or permission of Instructor, or admission to Electric League of Arizona program. ELC210 Lecture 3 Credits 3 Periods AC Machinery and DC Machinery Principles and operation of AC (Alternating current) and DC (direct current) motors, generators, and alternators. Includes single-phase motors along with induction, synchronous, and wound-rotor types of three-phase motors. DC motors including shunt-field, series field, wound rotor, permanent magnet, stepper and brushless types. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ELC119, or permission of Instructor, or admission to Electric League of Arizona program. ELC217 Lec + Lab 3 Credits 3 Periods Motor Controls Electrical symbols, line diagrams and logic. Contacts and starters, control devices, reversing circuits and power distribution systems. Magnetism and magnetic solenoids, reduced voltage starters, and circuits. Hand tools and safety procedures. Prerequisites: A grade of "C" or better in ELC119 or permission of Department or Division or admission to Electric League of Arizona program. ELC218 Lecture 3 Credits 3 Periods Variable Frequency Drives Principles and operation of f requency controlled AC (alternating current) motor drives, including current source inverters (CSI), variable voltage inverters (VVI) and pulse width modulated inverters (PWM). Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) applications along with energy savings, motor pump sizing and torque load calculations. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ELC120, or permission of Instructor, or admission to Electric League of Arizona program. (ELR) ELECTRICAL ELR131 81 Clock Hours Electrical Systems Electricity related to residential and light commercial applications, to include common electrical components, alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits, and electrical safety. Provides an introduction to reading, interpreting, and creating wiring diagrams and the application of electrical power. Operation and use of specific meters, tools, and an introduction to the National Electrical Code (NEC). Prerequisites: None. ELR132 81 Clock Hours Distribution Panels, Wiring, and Circuit Protection in Electrical Systems Course covers construction drawings and code related to conductors and cables (types, ratings), residential and commercial applications, wire sizes, utilities, meters, disconnects, breakers, grounding and bonding, rough-in wiring and circuit safety protection.
