The original kitchen in this 1939 home
was closed off, outdated and dark. The
clients desired an open-concept kitchen
and living space for entertaining. Extensive
renovations were needed to open the
space, including removing an existing
support beam, patching the original wood
floors, and updating old, charred electrical
wiring. Now the new kitchen is bright and
open, with tons of cabinets, updated
appliances and abundant countertop
space. This kitchen is clean and classy
with a fun, vibrant island that enhances the
feel of the home.

The family put off this project for as long as they
could wait. After sending three kids off to college,
followed by three back-to-back weddings, the couple
saved up to create their dream kitchen. Walls came
down and doorways were enlarged to transform the
traditional floor plan into the open, airy concept the
couple envisioned. Removing obstructions significantly
increased the space which now features white
cabinetry, custom reclaimed wood shelving and two
midcentury modern pendants over the island. Flush
LED downlights and accent lights below the shelves
brighten the area. The professional-grade gas range
with matching hood and the stainless-steel counter-
depth refrigerator help complete the space.
