A semi-retired couple who love to cook and
entertain on a grand scale wanted a large
kitchen with traditional elements – their
existing family room and kitchen felt out of
proportion. Thoughtful architecture and
design made the whole space feel more
aligned and inviting: substantial cherry
cabinetry, a meticulously crafted barrel ceiling,
a dramatically tall arched window above the
sink, wrought-iron corbels on the hood, and
the use of natural stone combine to
communicate Old World elegance inspired by
Tuscan design. The homeowners love the way
their new kitchen is ideal for enjoying together
or sharing at festive gatherings.

Built in 1902, this home has beautiful
craftsmanship, but the original kitchen
was small, inefficient and disconnected
from the rest of the home. Removing a
wall between the kitchen and dining
room and eliminating the basement
access from the kitchen space helped
meet one of the clients' key requirements,
to be able to entertain friends and family.
The new beam was concealed with an
arch that mimics an existing arch in the
home. Unique items such as the light
fixtures were repurposed in the new
design as well.
