Mom and dad needed to convert a main-
floor dining room into a mobility access
bathroom adjacent to their daughter's
bedroom. She loves to play in the bath, so
a charming, waterproof "wet room" was
created where she could splash to her
heart's content. Like most pre-teens, she
can be rough on household fixtures, so the
bathroom was thoroughly child-proofed.
The new design satisfied the family's desire
for a space that didn't look like a hospital
and drew inspiration from their love of the
seashore. This is a bath where they can
teach their daughter life skills for
independence.

MICHAEL NASH DESIGN BUILD & HOMES
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA
This couple were ready to retire and wanted
a first-story master suite addition and two-door
garage built for aging-in-place. The plan was to
convert the original garage into a master
bedroom suite, then add a mudroom and two-
door garage with side entrance. The seamless
connection of the existing home with its new
addition sets the stage for aging-in-place
features: a wide doorway and entrances, a
ramp from the garage to the mudroom, and a
bedroom suite with universal bath. The curbless
shower, wide hallways, double vanities and
heated floor were amenities they desired for
their home.
