Magnificent elk mounts tower over the train track and all those who enter the lobby. e Fireside Lounge offers warmth from a natural gas fireplace and a relaxed atmosphere with a pool table and shuffleboard for friendly competition. e décor may be impressive, but the menu items are remarkable. e 1028 Steakhouse offers mouth-watering, hearty meals with generous sides prepared by cooks Garre Carr and Patrick Carroll. "My son, Garre, is a mostly self-taught cook," says Pagie. "We used to have a catering business, and he helped a lot then." e 1028 Steakhouse offers three savory appetizers for starters – Marinated Steak Bites, Shrimp Cocktail, and Clam Bowl, a generous bowl of steamed clams finished in a white wine buer reduction. "I really like the steak bites and homemade bread," says Pagie. "e clam bowls are good, too." e beef dishes steal the show with hearty half-pound burgers with thick slices of tomato, onion, and leuce on the side and flavorful prime rib topped with mushrooms and crunchy asparagus. Prime rib is featured every other weekend. Chef Garrett Carr slices a prime rib to make up his signature dish, the bold-flavored prime rib topped with mushrooms and served with crispy roasted asparagus.
