AV Stand Custom Housings
Once the team had a handle on the quantity, physical
dimensions, and internal cabling requirements of all
the AV system electronic units, they needed to design
the physical stands to house these units. In addition
to having an equipment bay that would accommodate
service access, cable routing, and equipment cooling,
the stands needed a stable base to ensure they were not
top heavy or prone to tipping. The stands also needed
an aesthetically pleasing, permanent appearance,
yet be easily moveable. With the fall semester quickly
approaching, time was of the essence. The team engaged
a Nottingham based full-service metal fabricator with
many years of experience designing and manufacturing
for the AV, healthcare, and corporate furniture markets.
In consultation with all stakeholders, a design and
fit-check prototype was created. A complete system
was integrated on-site at NTU. This included all items
to provide a true feel for the final solution to reduce
risk. The prototype met all requirements, and full-scale
fabrication production of the stand enclosures proceeded
on an accelerated schedule (Figures 9 and 10).
