10 I ICT TODAY FIGURE 2: When designing and installing an AV over IP system, ensure a smooth project by following manufacturers' installation and operation instructions and best practices documentation. AV over IP system manufacturers publish user manuals and network configuration best practices guides that explain the implementation of the network protocols in detail as they relate to AV over IP. This documentation covers installation, configuration, and commissioning procedures in depth. As with any networking project, ICT designers and installers should consult the requisite documentation when tackling an AV over IP project. See figure 2. The secondary AV stands include an AV over IP decoder to receive AV content and control from the primary AV stands. DETAILED AV SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION, A CUSTOM ENCLOSURE DESIGN FOR THE SMART STANDS, AND THE COMPRESSED SCHEDULE Once the design team determined that AV over IP was the way to go, detailed AV system design proceeded on a compressed 2-week schedule. Close collaboration between NTU's Bagley, the integration contractor, and key suppliers was essential to meeting this aggressive schedule. The primary AV stands originate the AV content, which can be viewed locally on their own displays and distributed via AV over IP through the campus enterprise data network for viewing on up to five associated secondary AV stands. Five secondary AV stands per primary stand were considered optimal to accommodate NTU's largest teaching space while also accounting for COVID-19 social distancing requirements. However, this number can be easily adjusted to meet changing needs.
