38 International Ministries Jon Cassel Africa Director AFRICA Africa Training Conference Cape Town, Republic of South Africa October 19–23, 2022 Coming Up J on Cassel has become a prolific ministry planter for Cap- Min, greatly due to the numerous friendships and asso- ciations he has formed across Africa during his decades in ministry with the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and other Christian ministries. Jon began with CapMin in 2014, and in 2018 he was named Africa director. In that position, Jon is responsible for overseeing the recruiting and minis try plantings in Africa's more than 50 nations and helping to organize recruiting and training conferences. Even though impacted by travel and meeting restrictions associated with COVID-19 this year, new ministries were launched in Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, and the Peoples Republic of the Congo. ree ministry leaders, two of them with their ministry-partner wives, attended a training conference in Washington, D.C. Dr. Andrew and Dr. Wezi Mkwaila of Malawi are minis- try partners in their home nation. Andrew is the executive pastor of Christian International Assembly in Malawi, and Wezi is an associate professor of horticulture at Luanar- Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Ministry leader for Kenya is Rev. Dr. Stephen who attended the training conference with his wife, Dr. Rosemary Mbogo. Stephen serves as CEO for African Enterprise International, and Rosemary is a professor of educational leadership and administration at Africa International University. Our min- istry leader for Ethiopia is Tariku Kersima, who also serves as Director for the Horn of Africa's Hope of Africa Mission. Steve Flandorp was named ministry leader for South Africa, and Raoul Ngokaba is ministry leader for the People's Re- public of the Congo. Regarding some of the many other ongoing ministries, our Zambian team continued to minister to local govern- ment leaders despite meeting restrictions. Jon notes: "Our three men there are doing an exemplary job, and we are quite proud of them!" In addition, our ministry leader in Mada- gascar continues to meet and pray with the president of the Madagascar National Assembly and leads Bible studies for members. Two CapMin WhatsApp networks were launched—one in English and one in French. While personal contact was limited by COVID restrictions, WhatsApp communica- tions allowed CapMin ministry leaders and directors to keep in touch and to encourage and pray for each other. Jon believes deeply that a decision for Jesus Christ as a personal Savior is paramount for political leaders across the world and continues to be enthusiastic about helping to accomplish that objective in Africa. He said, "I am pleased to see those across Africa who wish to join with Capitol Ministries see their Christian political leaders discipled and strengthened in their faith so that their coun tries can live un- der righteous governance."
